During this Mind Move Make class we explored the ocean through yoga and movement! First we became the vast ocean, moving our bodies as the waves roll onto the shore. Then we became tiny phytoplankton, curling our bodies into seed posture and continuing to sway with the movement of water. After that, we imagined becoming a crab, jellyfish, mermaid, and a dolphin! During our savasana, we pretended to lounge in the warm sand. I asked students to wiggle their toes and fingers in the imaginary sand on the beach.
After reminding them about what phytoplankton are, we watched a short video from the makers of Ted Talks that taught about zooplankton and phytoplankton. Then we used white markers on black mat board to draw different types of phytoplankton and zooplankton. The children LOVED drawing on the black board with the white markers! Here are some of their beautiful drawings!
